I happened across these BEAUTIFUL creature Illustrations by AD Daniel Solis for the Greg Stolze game book, Reign (you can buy the book here).
Though not typographical, others agree that the style seems to be inspired from the zoomorphisms seen in Islamic Calligraphy.
